Bringing home that new laptop is a time filled with joy and excitement. You simply cannot wait to unbox that new laptop and start working on it. Whether you are a gamer, business management professional or a student, your new laptop will become the most valuable tool for your professional or academic life.

Not surprisingly, one of the first steps involved in setting up a new laptop is to install antivirus software if one is not preinstalled. What’s more, security conscious users always install folder encryption software to protect it from external and internal data leaks. However, few people know how to take care of their laptops on the outside. Laptops in contrast to desktops require more care, as they are portable and they are not built tough as compared to desktops. More importantly, laptops are more expensive to repair in comparison to desktops. Accordingly, the follow are some helpful hints to care for your laptop on the outside.

Keep the battery cool:

Heat is the biggest enemy of your laptop’s battery. Most users know that keeping the laptop cool extends its life and prevents damage to its vital components. Therefore, try to keep your laptop cool at all times.  Alternatively, if you have removable battery on your laptop, take out the battery and use your laptop through your power outlet.

Don’t drink or eat next to your laptop:

If own a desktop and you just happen to spill water or soda on your keyboard, you’ll just have to worry about purchasing a new keyboard. If the same thing happens on your laptop’s keyboard, you’ll have to be prepared to purchase a new laptop.  If you don’t have choice but to have breakfast while working on your laptop, then keep your coffee or orange juice as far away from your laptop as possible.

Invest in a good carrying case:

Don’t waste your money by purchasing a cheap laptop carrying case. Your laptop is considered one of your biggest investments, so it shouldn’t be treated carelessly. Look for something that is convenient and easy to carry, yet provides adequate padding in case of falls and drops. A good case can run you somewhere between $50.00 to 200.00.

Clean your laptop regularly:

Cleaning your laptop is an important step. Smudges, grime and food crumbs can end up lodged inside the crevices between your keys. To clean the screen on your laptop, create a mixture of pure distilled water mixed with white vinegar. Then, spray some on a clean cloth and wipe your screen, use a circular motion to wipe the screen and don’t apply too much pressure. This home-made laptop cleaner is a natural mixture that works well and is safe for your laptop, given that you don’t spray directly onto the laptop. To remove crumbs between the crevices of your keyboard, purchase an air in a can cleaning spray. Spray liberally between the gaps, as this would blow away possible dirt and debris accumulated overtime.

Keep your laptop cool; transport it safely with a decent carrying case; don’t eat or drink next to it and clean it regularly. Following these tips religiously will ensure that you enjoy your laptop for years and years to come.
